WATER CASA ANNOUNCES LATEST WATER USE REDUCTIONS

intect2017 Update

Since 2002, Water CASA, in cooperation with Flowing Wells Irrigation District (FWID), has tracked the actual interior and exterior water use for 27 single-family residences in Tucson, Arizona.

Originally made possible with support from the Bureau of Reclamation, the study homes were dual plumbed when constructed and the staff of FWID has continued to read those meters and compile the data for analysis by Water CASA over the past 15 years.

With each additional year of data, we learn a bit more about changes in the usage patterns through time.

  • Total water use for these homes has averaged 67 GPCD over the past 15 years.
  • Outdoor water use has averaged 20% of total usage over the past 15 years. (See accompanied chart)
  • Annual rainfall does not correlate highly with exterior water use for these homes.
  • Last year we received 91% of our rainfall in just three months (January, July, August). Hotter than normal temperatures and dry spells of four or five months may account for the uptick in 2107 exterior water use.
